dining room redesign
Sometimes when you move into a new house, you are not really sure where to start if you have a ton of work to be done. In this instance, the home owner knew they wanted their first project to be new coat of paint for the dining room and the family room. They had moved their furniture in to the house but that was it. They had picked a color for the family room but needed a color over this green for the dining room. They wanted a grey to coordinate, so we went with Sherwin Williams Dorian Grey. This is the before on the dining room and in another blog post I share the family room updates.
It looks so much better after the green was gone. She had a few pieces that she had from her other home and we used what she had and added in some green with the boxwood topiaries and buffalo check. She collected lots of pewter pieces so after they were able to get settled in the house she displayed them in her black china cabinet.
I gathered up the wall art she had from her previous home an added in a few pieces including greenery. I always like to see all that they have to see what we can curate to make a collection. It may look like small pieces but when you gather them up together it looks so much better.
This was her table runner I added and what I used for her table for fall. She changes out the wooden bowl for the season. On trays, I like to add 3-5 items and vary the height a little. That’s the fun, you can change them up to whatever you like.

This is the foyer when you first enter the house and she painted an heirloom dresser in Homestead blue by Fusion that we put in the empty space. I love this color and added in just a few accessories and the lamp from the shop.
When you are moving into a new place it can be so hard to try and work on all the projects. My suggestion is start with what you have and try and get your common areas the way you’d like. We can’t all have endless budgets and its a good place to start to spend your money. A few additional accessories can make all the difference in adding to what decor you have. I hope you find the inspiration to change up the decor you have.
