Vintage gingerbread christmas
It’s a vintage gingerbread Christmas collection. One thing I have loved for years is gingerbread decor! I started collecting it when I worked my first job out of high school. I would help the ladies in the home department open stock and merchandise after I got of my college classes. That’s always fun no matter what season because its like Christmas all year. We never knew what we were getting in. I kept my eye on that gingerbread decor all season. We had lots of dishes, table runners, napkin rings, and all kinds of goodies. They ended up putting it on sale and I bought several pieces.
So gradually, I have added pieces over the years. It is not easy to find but my Mom is always on the lookout for unique pieces. I love it! Now I have enough gingerbread ornaments to do a whole tree in it! I snapped a few pics so you could see how I decorate with vintage gingerbread ornaments, cookie cutters, and ribbon.
This little tree has seen better days but I can’t seem to get rid of it. This was our first tree when we got married. My husband worked midnights and when he got off work would go deliver furniture 3 or 4 days a week when the owner would need him. It was our first Christmas and had only been married a few months. So we didn’t have a tree yet. One day he came home with this tree…..he said Randall was going to throw it in the dumpster. So naturally Barry brings it home. haha Not what I had expected but I had plenty of ornaments from growing up so I made it work. I fluffed and fluffed. Grabbed a red gingham tablecloth for a tree skirt; ribbon and picks to fill in the holes. It was the cutest little tree. So I’ve kept it around for 18 years.
I love the uniqueness of this vintage gingerbread style! It is truly one you don’t see very often which makes it that much more special. What’s your favorite Christmas theme?

Thanks Mrs Frances for reading the post! I think of it every time I drag it out. It probably really needs to be thrown away but I can’t seem to part with it yet.

So adorable. I love gingerbread too. I have some pieces but not near like you. I love your tree and the sentiment behind it. Mom started collecting the log cabin dishes from Peebles. I have them all at the cabin. I’ll never forget when I started decorating a tree with stylish ornaments my son said mom I love our tree before with all our old ornaments. I still have some of those ornaments but have given them all some I had when they were little. Style comes and goes but the sentimental ones are forever. Love your table. It’s a killer!!

I loved working with Iva and Beverly. She was always buying a gift for someone and had so much energy. I have very fond memories of her. She dug up flowers of hers and given me a start of them. Lilies that I moved to my new house. It’s the little things that we remember and cherish.

That’s precious. I did the same thing with our first tree until it fell apart
