This project is for one of those nights when you need a nice long soak in a hot bathtub. Shut the door, don’t bother me…unless someone is dying kinda nights. Let’s face it, the kids only want to talk to you when you are on the phone or in the bathroom. Am I right? Grab your bath salts, candle, and phone and go soak in a hot bathtub once you get this bath tray made.

You can make this DIY bath tray with things that you more than likely already have. We had everything on hand.

{Supplies}

• WIDE BOARD & SCRAP WOOD

My husband had this old chippy board that he planed down with his planar. I know, I know…..all the chippy paint lovers out there will cringe and gasp. But he did it and made it super smooth.

This is what it turned out like after a few passes in the planar. Super smooth and void of any chippy paint.

I measured the width of the tub so it would sit flush over the sides. You want it to be snug so that it doesn’t slide around. He attached little cleats (scrap wood he cut to size) and attached with a nail gun. You could do this with screws if you didn’t have a nail gun handy. The cleats are what keep the board from ending up in the tub with you. The picture below is what the bathtub tray looks underneath.

Mark the hardware with a pencil on where you want them to go and drill out the depth of them. You can use gorilla glue to attach.

Here it is what it looks like once the holes are drilled.

Grab you some spray paint…..Krylon is my preferred choice but use what you have on hand to coordinate with your paint choice.

We ended up spraying the bath tub tray with spray gun. I used some chalk paint that I had on hand but you could use stain also.

{After}

Here is what the project looks like after it was sprayed with chalk paint.

I did a grey color and sprayed the old handles in a white spray paint. I grabbed some canisters from TJMaxx for $5.99. They had coffee and tea labels on them, but just popped them off and took off silicone.

This was an old 14 foot orchard ladder that we bought at an auction. That’s the thing with auctions, you never know what you will find. That particular one, we didn’t bring our trailer and we REALLY needed it. The truck was full to the brim and we had this ladder strapped around the side mirrors. My husband took the ladder and cut it into 3 different sections. I took the top piece that was tapered and more unique. Its been in this spot ever since. I just added some furniture pads underneath so it wouldn’t scratch my walls.

This is a great project that you can make with items that you have already on hand!
